3 Attachment(s) New Fleet Addition - Goblin!
Discussion / Posted by CSpaced / 07-02-2012 @ 06:49 PM / 49,886 Views / 4 Comments / Reply
I've been looking forward to this one for a long time, and I'm just about 99% finished building my new Goblin 700! I still have a few small things to do, but it's pretty much finished.

Here's what I'm running in it:

SAB Goblin 700
KDE Direct 700XF-495
Castle Creations OPhoenix ICE 2 HV160
Futaba CGY750 Gyro
Futaba R6203SB Receiver
Outrage BL9180 Cyclic Servo
Outrage BL9188 Tail Servo
2 Cell 7.4v 2200mah Lipo on receiver (HV Setup)
Perfect Regulators Duo Switch

I'm going to be running some 40c 5000mah skylipos until I can get something else, and I can't wait to get it in the air! More pics and video to come once I get some stick time on it!

I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving holiday (for those that celebrate it!). I plan to eat lots of turkey, hang out with family and friends, and squeeze a little mcpx flying in when no one is looking! :D

Have a great weekend!

I seem to be on a flybarless conversion kick, and amongst other things I just converted my Chaos 600 to flybarless using a spare TRex 550/600 head with a shorter main shaft and the BeastX Microbeast. Can't wait to fly it!

Yes I know we needed it, and I'm sure the ground is grateful, but man does it cut into my flying time! :D

Time to break out the mcpx for some indoor fun, maybe I'll set up an obstacle course....
89 Attachment(s) Thunder Tiger Titan X50 - Build Thread
Discussion / Posted by CSpaced / 08-22-2011 @ 10:07 PM / 74,435 Views / 50 Comments ( Multi-page thread 1 2 3 4 ) / Reply
This will be my little informal build thread for the Titan X50 I'll be reviewing. I always take a ton of photos, and can't always squeeze them all into the one review, so this will be where I'll post them!

The Titan X50 was announced at IRCHA last year (2010) and the first version released was the belt driven variant. This is the torque tube version, that was released later, and has a number of upgrades over the original aside from the TT tail. This version has an all metal head, as well as a single piece machined aluminum tail gear box.

You know for years the Thunder Tiger Raptor dominated flying fields and fly ins, until Align released their T-Rex line of helis. With this new design from Thunder Tiger, and with Hobbico now distributing the kit, you can bet that the Titan will give the T-Rex a run for its money!

I'll be running a Redline .56 with O.S. powerboost muffler, GY701 gyro/governor, and Futaba BLS-251 tail servo and 253 cyclic servos. Like Steve (who is doing the Raptor G4 build thread), I also got to drool a little over the X50 at IRCHA and the Thunder Tiger team put on a heck of a show with it. Now that my workebench has been cleared I can begin!

Enough talk, on to the pics!

Cool artwork on the box:

Subdivided Compartments:

Instruction manual (with additional decals in the back):

Goodies to make it go!

All of the major bagged components:

Purty, pre-painted fiberglass caonpy:

Clear, illustrated exploded views showing assembly:

And of course, the X50 promotional video:

Can someone turn down the Sun a smidge?
Discussion / Posted by CSpaced / 07-29-2011 @ 10:33 PM / 46,079 Views / 12 Comments / Reply
Man, it is HOT outside at the moment. High humidity and temperatures hovering around 100, I don't know how anyone can get anything done outside in this kind of heat. My days have become strategically planned so that anything outside gets done in the wee hours of the morning, or during magic hour in the evening.

Forget about noon to 4pm, I just can't do it...

How's everyone else handling the heat?
Moved: What to bring to IRCHA?...

So the last few days have been pretty miserable. My Wife started to feel under the weather about a week ago, and we thought it was allergies and continued as normal. Wrong! Turned out she was getting a cold, and it wasn't until days after she got it that we realised this. Needless to say, it was only a few days later that I came down with it. I'm three days in and feeling crappy, but on the plus side my Wife is feeling better!

You'd think with all this down time I'd get something constructive done, but no! All I want to do is sleep, which is a problem because I can't stop coughing long enough to get any!

Being ill really sucks.
Weather tease..

We have an extra hour of daylight and spring is right around the corner, but the wind just wont let up! What a tease having 70 degree weekends when the wind is upwards of 14 mph! :( .....

MySQL, MyPHP, and MY headache.

This past week I've been working on a few different websites. Its funny, when I do this kind of work I get sucked into a time warp where all the days merge together and I end up spending enormous amounts of time staring at the screen.

The first site was built from scratch, and needed a shopping cart. No problem, there is enough free stuff available on the web to do it. A couple of days later and we have a usable site with functioning cart.

The second site was more involved. It was using way old software to run the site, an even older forum, and it all had to be brought up to date without losing any data. There were several versions of the software between where we were at, and where we wanted to go. I ended up manually exporting/importing a lot of the database files, designed a new template, and successfully brought across all the users/articles/forum data without losing a thing. I tested it all on a local server first, so that when I ran the live site installation the down time was only an hour.

Not bad for an untrained hack

What really irked me, was that some servers are using a newer version of PHP which renders the "TYPE=MyISAM" command obsolete, it has been replaced with "ENGINE=MyISAM". I was getting errors all over the place at first, and I had to hunt down and change the scripts to get it all to work. I dunno why they would need to change the command like that, but I guess they have their reasons.

Anyhow, its all done now, and the irony is that while I was glued to the screen the weather was beautiful, and now that I'm done we are expecting rain and cold temperatures again.... *sigh*

I can feel the warmer weather trying to break out :D . So my Wife and I headed to the field for a half hour break and got the Chaos back in the air. That is one sweet machine! I had a good four flights on it before heading home again, with "straighten up and fly right" being sung out of the radio by the Andrews Sisters......

Looks like we are getting another half decent day tomorrow as far as the weather, so I'm topping up the batts in advance! I tell ya, if that Hitec X4 charger had an AC adapter, I'd be on it like mud on a mountain bike!

Not to get religious or anything, but we were given a beautiful day yesterday! In this month of snow, ice, and freezing rain, something odd happened - for one day only the sun came out and the temperature soared to 70 degrees (during an average temp of 35 all month). After wearing winter coats for the last couple of months, I was suddenly standing there in a t-shirt enjoying the warm weather.

So what did I do? I loaded up my helis and headed to the field! It was a perfect day, my Wife came out with me and we met a flying buddy out there. I buddy boxed my Wife as she flew her T-28 around (she's still learning), and I got to fly my freshly completed Chaos 600 around (look for the review real soon!). As the sun was setting I just wanted to hang out there all evening, it was bliss.

When we got home I excitedly told my Wife that I was going to charge up my batts again and try to head out through the week. She just looked at me and gave me a sad little smile, "Honey.." she said, "its going to be an average of 36 degrees this week.....".

Oh well, I've had a taste of spring and I can't wait until it comes back!

Everything is ready to go, but the weather is just not co-operating. If it isn't snowing/sleeting/raining, the wind is blowing over 20mph. Oh well, there is bound to be at least one decent flying day some time soon..... right?
