Does anyone know if A123's are available with a capacity larger than 2300mah? Considering using these in a new heli with JR 8717's on cyclic, probably a Fromeco Kiwi regulator also to be able to feed the servos at full voltage. Just like the idea of the A123 battery chemistry.

they do make a 4200 but its heavy, i am using the 2300 hc in my helis no reg is needed only a set down on the tail i pull about 300 mha per flight and get about 6 flights on a pack before recharging Dino

I don't know if they make a 4200, but I know that A123 did have a 11,000mAh on their website once. I saved the page as a screen print. I just looked, but the site it seems to be under construction. I know other companies are producing various size LiFePO4 from 500 to 8500, but the quality and performance is not that of A123.

Apparently, they have a few different capacities in development. I had a link, I will try to find it.

At the moment anything over 2300mah is not an A123 but a copy that is Li-Fe isnt bad but doesnt use the nano technology.
2300 is about 2000 usable mah, they dump real fast.
I use them on Gsp and as a rx pack on a Trex, weighs less than a 1950nmh despite its bulky apearance.

I know the chart says lead acid but it was a A123 rx pack that I made, shows the sharp drop off even at 5amps

I don't really understand the benefit of A123's.. is it just the quick charge time?

It would seem the added weight would really dampen flight times and dynamics.

The benefit of a123s cant really be seen in a 450 size as much as the larger. The main benefit is two fold. You can occasionally get the cells for cheap and you can zip charge them. A 3s pack in 10 minutes for instance charging at 10-20amps. This is great for 500-60/90 size helis because the battery packs are so expensive. Also there is no risk of fire as with lipo, the cells can be cycled 2000+ times, and are rated at 30c discharge. Downside is weight and size.

For me the reduced fire risk is the best benefit of the A123s. For electric scale birds, removing the packs for charging is not really an option....having my bird go up in flames in not an option either. So the A123s are the way to go.
