I have owned a lot of 50 size machines and this one by far is my favorite!! Since getting it, I now have "transformed" two other members into the Trex 600 club! :)

I have one and I really used to like it until it developed a tail wag that I just can't seem to get rid of. I'd go into detail, but I've posted on HF, RR, and other places and I tried all the suggestions to no avail. Before that, it was absolutely awesome... :(

I ordered one about a week ago, so it should arrive very soon. Can't wait to get it going. Any setup tips for me?

Toro, I have the metal blocks for mine but havent put them in, whats the advantage other than bling?

over time the plastic carriers can hone out. They develop slop, and the main shaft bearings can shift in the carrier. I have seen them shift as much as 1/64" of an inch in each direction

I've been flying my 600 for about 2 months now and I love it. It's a stock sport kit with a YS50, GV-1, GY401, and Align 2 in 1 on it and it flies great.

I bought a trex 500 and loved how much better it flew compared to a 450 so I thought the 600 would be even better.
The 600n is a great flier and I've progressed alot in the short time i've had it. I've gone from gentle forward flight to loops, rolls, and flips in a couple weeks. The 600 tracks really nicely and is fast and smooth in FFF and it has also really helped me with my inverted skills.
I've put almost a gallon and a half through mine but had a case of dumb thumbs the other day and planted it in the field while trying to piro at the top of a loop and finish the loop coming around backwards. Approx $200 damage. As soon as parts arrive it will be tearing up the skies over my yard again.
I was expecting alot more damage after watching it go in but it seems to be quite a tough heli. I crashed hard and the frame and head seem to be undamaged, maybe a feathering shaft but I haven't dug that deep into it yet. My new SAB main blades were the biggest loss.
A great machine that I don't think anyone would be dissappointed with purchasing.
Good luck to everyone.

My 600N finally arrived yesterday, and I started assembling immediately. For the most part, I haven't had any problems, but I do have a couple of questions that were not addressed in the manual.

There is a 'panel' marked on the underside of the canopy. (See photo) Do I cut this out or leave it in?

The other problem I've run across is that Align did not include enough of the adhesives they call for in the instructions. I've got loctite, so I don't need the blue stuff, but I don't know what to use to substitute for the green adhesive.

Finally, I would like to paint my canopy. Does anyone have any suggestions on paint and prep. for this? I'm told that the plastic used for the canopy is very difficult to paint.

Yes, cut the panel out on the underside of the canopy. Not even sure what the green stuff is, I never used it. I only use blue loctite for metal and superglue (CA) for plastic. Can't advise you on painting.

Helical,
Why cut the panel out on a nitro? I could see the need for more air flow on the electric with the batteries being right there. Maybe to let the pressure out when flying backwards?

Same on the green stuff, I never used any and just used CA on the screws that go to plastic. Also found that the CA'd screws are still easy to remove when needed after a crash. :(
I've heard the plastic is pretty much impossible to get paint to stick to. Just buy a nice fiberglass canopy if you want a pretty custom paint job. The unpainted ones are not too expensive.
Good luck

cr5,

I use a regulator and it helps to have airflow to keep cool. And yes, I do a lot of backward flying and it may help reduce the canopy's "parachute" effect. You could probably get away without cutting it out if you preferred not to.

I believe the green loctite is a bearing retainer like LOCTITE 680,didnt use it on mine,I did cut out the hole in canopy and have mounted the align bec regulator remote on the bottom so its out of harms way and doesnt get covered in nitro, easy to stick finger in and turn on and glow, and just left up heli to check out battery condition,Dont waste your time painting the plastic one use it for your testing canopy and get a fibreglass one and paint and keep it for bling

Well, all I can say in my defense is that I never could back away from a good challenge! I did a little testing on the pieces that I cut from the canopy and found a way that seems to work OK. It doesn't peel or crack, at any rate. I put a coat of gloss enamel sealant on top of the paint to protect the finish from scratching and such. Whether or not the enamel will stand up to 30% nitro is something I'll find out later.

I'm waiting on parts for the moment, but I've got the major assemblies completed and ready to put together. Hopefully I'll have her ready to fly in a couple more weeks.

Thats great, I think you will find that it will crack in the stress areas proberly where the grommets go,I know in the automotive industry they put an additive in the paint to make it flexible when they paint plastic material, see how it goes, looks good

The paint I used is formulated for use on plastic, so it flexes pretty well. It doesn't seem to have the brittle nature of most spray paints. I have a feeling that friction will lead to the demise of the paint job. I already got a couple of small scratches on it and they did take the paint off. As long as it lasts until I get a fiberglass canopy, I'll be happy. At least it will contrast with the sky better than the white.

like said before the green stuff in the bottle is for things that are pressed into place like bearings into blade grips and bearing blocks. As for the plastic canopy painting it is a waste of time. You can get a Align prepainted canopy pretty cheap or get a sticker set like I did. I havent seen many guys running these and I must say the quality of these decals is great. Much better then the stock stickers. They are thicker and the quality/color are great!

Its pretty easy to paint if you just want a two color contrast use krylon fusion for plastic on the top any color you like and leave the bottom white. Be sure to wash the canopy with some dawn and warm water and rinse it very well. If you want to get a multi color thing going shoot the whole canopy with fusion white and let it cure and then you can shoot any paint you like.

My attempt at painting the plastic canopy.

Hi guys I just got my Trex 600n on friday and flew it on sunday. It was one of the easiest and fastest helis I have built so far. The first thing I noticed about the heli is that it was more stable then my freya evo 90 and it had feels great in the air. Only problem i had was that I felt that the negative climb wasn't very fast i have +10 -11 anyone else feel the same way about this?

To get the paint to stick on the plastic canopy you need to use bumper primer first the bumper primer will give the paint the ability to stick to the paint and stops the paint from cracking from impacts and bending.

Just some random info the 600n can hover inverted without any input at in low to now wind conditions...don't have a photo to prove it though but it really can :P

Yes, I used a bumper primer and I also used an Adhesion Promoter in addition. Seems to do the trick.

When painting plastic you need a plastic adhesion promoter you can get it where they sell automotive paint since so many new cars have a lot of plastic anymore it is used alot for painting plastic parts on cars. hope this helps Rick
