Is it just me, or is G3 the best sim of the three? I've owned 3, and 3.5, but I've only played with 4. I hated it. Anyways, I just switched back to G3. With this being said, I'm more of a plane guy, but I have to admit, I bought EP 2 for the Aurora...

Is G4 better for helis then G3?

Thanks,

I flew a few heli's on G4 at WRAM and I gotta say it was pretty sweet :D. I loved it, and after actually flying heli's its pretty darn realistic IMO.

I have G2 and G3/3.5, I've played with G4. Is it better for helis? My opinion is G3
Is just fine. Save your money and use it for more fuel

G3 is the best for planks, which is what I fly, but I enjoy simulated helis until I can get into real ones.....

For me I fly helis, and for me G2 because I can get it matched to the setup of my helis the best. But G3 is nice because it has the Hover trainer and the Orientation trainer for helis witch is nice. And you can downlode helis that others
have set up that fly just fine on G3.

i think G3.5 in vary good for both but i am only a beginner heli pilot so i wont really know. but i am a good plane pilot and G3.5 does a vary good job and i have played with G4 and for planks well 2 words: "IT SUCKS" (thats just my idea of G4, others might think differently and i dont want to make them wrong or anything)

It will partly depend on your computer processing power...

G3.5 is mostly just bug fixes to G3...

4.0 will bog down some machines that run 3/3.5 just fine.

If you have the computer power for 4.0... its good.

Note that you can have an awesomly powerful processor and lots of RAM and a low end video system (the on the motherboard video that shares system RAM)... and the programs can bog down waiting for the video to catch up.

If you don't have the power, you have to turn off a lot of the realizm options... turn off the shadows and the "ground clutter" and cut the video resolution. (helps any version if your computer is marginal for it...)

Welcome to the world of modern game programs... they want lots of computer horsepower.

Thank you sir!

They think they have to have the best eye-candy and forget that the majority of the people either do not have the latest system or use laptops that are not upgradable.

I know they will always make things more realistic, I just wish they would have on the same disks a "light" edition you could select for low end systems or laptops (actually its the graphic cards thats the limiter in most cases, not the cpu or memory).

I know it would increase sales, there is alot of games out that I would buy if it would just run on my laptop (will not start with Vista compatability).

I've used all three and have a G3.5.

Graphics wise I think all of the Real Flight sims are pretty poor. I used to be a pretty big gamer so I have a decent machine to run them on, and the graphics are pretty bad when you compare them to the modern day games.

Don't get me started on the whiny sounds they used either. I can understand that it takes a lot of skill and effort to make a sim with great graphics but they could have at least made the sounds a bit more realistic.

I started with Real Flight Deluxe then moved on to G2, then G3, then upgraded to G3.5, then G4. I have a high end laptop and 2 high end computers so CPU, RAM, Hard Disk space, and Video Cards aren't an issue for me.
I like G4 the most and I think it is the most realistic for both planes and helis. When they made G3 they redid the physics to make it as realistic as possible. I think the Real Flight aircraft are the most realistic and the 3D fields are probably the most realistic but the resolution of the Photo Fields in Real Flight is a tad lower than the ones in the other sims. However I'm pretty sure that Real Flight invented the photo-realistic flying field cause they had it way back in Real Flight Deluxe.

I don't know if they still sell it but I heard that for helis, Reflex XTR is the most accurate for simulating heli flight.

i have 3.5 when i try using the heli trainer guy. it does weird things like has the trainer guy speaking kinda garbbled, and two helis or one heli and a plane if i was flying one before that has this happen to any one before. how do i fix it.

Your computer just needs more juice. It was like that on my old machine, but on the new one, the training modes work well. Online works good too... think about what's going on there, the computer has a lot to do. Also, if you have a 3D graphics card it can make a huge difference - the card can do the graphics and that frees up processor time to do the physics and other stuff, like play the recordings of the trainer talking.

In training mode, you can fly while the instructor is flying. That's why there is 2 aircraft.

Why would you want a better sound card? Unless you want to fly with surround sound there is no point in doing that.
Did you mean a better graphics card cause that is what you need for a fast frame rate when using a simulator.

my kid told me that i need it, cause the sound is garbled when he talks so i don't know what i really need. my gut says a graphics cardcard

I bet that if you get a good graphics card it will fix the sound too because right now your computer's CPU is trying to handle everything at once. If the burden of processing awesome graphics is taken off the CPU and handled by the graphics card instead, then the sound should run normally.

I agree with John 3D--You need a better graphics card! I have a high end gaming computer, and G4 rocks! The sound realism could be improved, but it is still an awesome sim. I sold my AFPD cause I don't use it anymore. The heli's are realistic on G4. You definitely need a good video card. I understand the sound realism is improved in RF 4.5, we'll see.

Yeah, and it's a free download if you are a registered user of G4. It's about 1gig file though. Try to download that on dial up! I think that only the beta version is available right now though.

Its not letting me download the upgrade to G4.5:mad: I have G4 and am registered so I went to the RealFlight website and it only says that upgrading from G3 to G3.5 is free. It doesn't say anything about a G4.5 upgrade.
