Hi, me again,....
Not flown anything at all, for at least last couple of years. Don`t know why, but I`m back now and recently added a GAUI 330X-S Quad Flyer to my short list of helicopters
http://www.buzzflyer.co.uk/Quad-Flyers-Aerial-Photography/GAUI-330X-S-Quad-Flyer/p-142-1595/
I also bought the AeroCam Conversion Kit http://www.buzzflyer.co.uk/product.asp?P_ID=1671&strPageHistory=related
and the GoPro HD Hero Camera http://www.buzzflyer.co.uk/Quad-Flyers-Aerial-Photography/GoPro-HD-Hero-Camera/p-142-1670/ .
I already have a Spektrum Quad Link AR7000 Receiver in my Raptor Titan but got a Spektrum AR6200 from the same supplier with a Li-Po Battery 7.4v 2000mah 20C http://www.buzzflyer.co.uk/product.asp?P_ID=1637&strPageHistory=related .

Oh, nearly forgot, I`ll be using my DX7 Tx.

I`ve been to RC groups and helifreaks and the like and come across a few threads but thought I`d start this thread here. I really want to get into helping to promote my town this year by way of some good pics and vids. Not in it for money initially, but may consider selling pics and vids in the future if they are any good and people want them. But what pics and vids I DO get to start with will be going on my new website http://wrexcam-helivision.co.uk/2.html , Facebook page http://en-gb.facebook.com/wrexcam.helivision and Youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/WrexcamHeliVision .

I know, I know, but you gotta start somewhere, RIGHT?

Since it arrived RTF, all I`ve done is charge everything, put the settings from this page http://www.buzzflyer.co.uk/gaui-330x-spektrum-dx6i.asp into my DX7 and gone for the X flight mode.

I switched everything on just the once, to check rotor direction and throttle also checked correct rotor to stick elev+ail. Did this while holding the thing down on the carpet.
Noticed one or two motors starting up way before the others. This is my first electric apart from my CX2 and for some reason , it scares me a bit. I had no problem what so ever with my IC`s , the sound never bothered me or anything. My biggest worry is orientation, so will invest first in some florescent stickies and would even go as far as LED tubes for capturing night events. When I get confident enough and have the proper bits of paper etc, I suppose rotor blade protectors would be a good idea where flying over people is concerned.
All sorts of things to think about, but for now, I want to clip the GoPro on the mount, switch it all on and have a fly. But there are no servos on the cam mounting. It`s just swinging about. I suppose I should just mount the cam, adjust the rough desired down angle and wherever the the whole thing comes to rest under the heli, I should fix it with something to that position. I`n not interested in putting the cam on top or even achieving left and right axis, the legs or the rotor blades would get into shot and I don`t want that.
So if i put the cam on, stop the cam mount from swinging about, switch Tx on and plug battery into heli, am I good to go??!!?!?
I don`t think so some how and would appreciate someone talking me through everything to make sure I got it right.

The good thing about the Go-Pro is that it has a nice wide angle lense, so you don't have to worry too much about aiming it exactly where you need it. I haven't used mine on my helis yet, but I did strap it to the front of my mountain bike and got some great video!

It may be worth your while to just do a few test flights with it first before strapping a camera on board, just to get a feel for orientation. When you do strap the camera on, post up the vid so we can check it out!

I've used my gopro on my blade 400. it worked pretty good except for the vibration. thats what was really tough to fix because lack of free space on that heli. Ive seen some people say that if you put some sort of foam blocks under the camera that the foam will absorb almost 90% of the vibration and prevent it from swinging. I always say though ZipTies are a mans best friend lol. try that. use some zip ties so it wont swing

Also for quads its a good idea to have a auto hold system that will hold the quad-copter in a position hands off. I forgot the name but they sell something kinda like auto pilot for these bad boys and even gps lock. though all that stuff is only if you want to kick it up a notch' hehe. Plus you must try FPV on a quad copter.. it is amazing from the vids i've seen! you can do low level to mid high altitude shots all in one go. go pro is a beast for FPV since it has A/V output also. For instance you can fly manually to an altitude and pop a switch and it will hold with gps lock. then switch over all the controlls to the camera servos. i know you said you didnt have any servos for the mount but it would be sooo cool! a system like this wouldnt be too much you just gota shop around. ok i am rambling on lol... oohhh im just dreaming about what i would build lol..ohh the horror. (ps. i watch to many heli/fpv videos hehe)
here check this vids out! oh and also if its all swinging about it could throw the gyro off. good idea to use some ties. I think you are pretty much good to go though since you went the RTF route. depends on what you want to do with your quad.
