I know alot of you guys know me from the Flying Giants. I'm 66stang over there too. Here's the deal I bought a new Trex 450sa and put it together this spring. I was flying it on a DX7 radio. Well I sold the radio. The hobby shop that helped me program the radio closed. I'm fine in forward flight. What I need is setup info. Like pitch, gyro and throttle hold, Etc. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. I want to start doing some loops and inverted stuff. But I need the Heli setup in my new radio.
My setup:
Trex450sa
Hitec 65
Futaba 401 with matching futaba servo (High tourqe)
Stock blades
I have a pitch gauge.
Thanks DUuuDES

Hey Stang! Glad to see you over here :)
Here's a few tips. On the 401 you adjust the gain remotely on the transmitter. Whatever channel you plug the single yellow wire into, you use that channels travel adjust to set the gain. -100 to 0 is rate mode and 0 to 100 is heading hold. Start with about 40% for each and dial it in from there. I have a two way switch assigned to the channel so I can switch back and forth between rate and HH. Set your gyro to rate mode and mechanically adjust the pushrod to cancel out any drift.
For the throttle curve, my normal is set up around 0,70(ish?),100 and idle up is 100,90,100.
My pitch curve is linear, with mid stick being 0 degrees. This means that I use the same amount of stick movement for negative pitch (mid stick to low) to hover inverted as I do for positive pitch (mid stick to high) when the heli is hivering right side up.
It is important to correctly set up the heli mechanically before dialing in any pitch curves. Make sure all links are 90 degrees to servo horns etc, the same principals we use on our airplanes for all the pushrods.
Throttle hold is set to one of the shoulder switches, this effectively disables the motor but allows the pitch to operate independantly. Good for practicing autos :D
Hope some of this helps!

Cspaced, thanks for the info. There is a lot to take in when setting up a Heli correctly.

Did you say which Rx and I missed it? A lot of guys use the 6100 on a 450, which is no problem, but with the 9303 you can't use the gyro features with a 6 channel Rx - you have to go back to ATVs
As far as throttle hold, be sure to turn that on - it's Inhibited by default...

Guy's my problem is I'm using a 6channel rx. I need to figure the radio out. Do I do a mix. Also how do I configure the HH and switch. SO I need to setup HH and my 401 with a 6 channel RX. Thanks
6 channel no problem... Your not using a governor so you dont need a 7th channel...
JR radio
1 throttle
2 elevator
3 Aileron
4 Rudder
5 Gyro gain
6 Pitch.
the typical gyro setting is 0-50 in your atv's for postions 1 on your gear/ rudder dual rate... this will put you into non HH mode.
50-100 % will kick you into HH mode. I normally fly in HH mode only, and use non HH for setup, and thats it.

I think my setting for gyro ended up at 80 for me. That is in your ATV's. Setup channel 5 to 75% and go up or down from there.
