Since my first attempt did not "follow the rules" I thought it was time to step it up a bit.

Here are a shot of me and my mCX in front of the Tarrant County Courthouse in historic downtown Fort Worth. If any of you remember the show "Walker, Texas Ranger" starring Chuck Norris you will have seen him coming and going from this building.

I managed to get a couple other even more unique locations shot today and will be posting them over the next week. I've also have some even better ideas but they might require special arrangements; stay tuned.

Helicopters fly by beating the air into submission. Chuck Norris flies by staring down the air until it submits to his demands.

Here is another unique location: the Fort Worth Water Gardens. It is a group of fountains and pools located on the south side of downtown. This is a picture of me and my mCX again standing inside the "active pool". This pool was featured in the 1976 film "Logan's Run". Check out this link for more information on the Gardens:

I hope I haven't stepped out too much with these locations. It might encourage someone to get really creative and then sandbag their photos until just before the contest ends. There's no way that I might do that, too. ;)

Oh *(^&*@$, was that out loud?

benwhite22
11-02-2010, 08:26 AM
Hopefully, the uniqueness of the location makes up for the quality of the pictures. Due to the nature of this location, across the street was as close as I could get. The billboard that you see in the shots is directly across from the main entrance.

In case you haven't peeked at the pictures yet, I am standing with my TRex 500 in front of the world headquarters of one of the world's premier rotorcraft manufacturers, Bell Helicopter. They have been at this location in Hurst, Texas for decades and such iconic helicopters as the UH-1 Iroquois (Huey), the AH-1 Cobra, the OH-58 Kiowa and the V-22 Osprey were developed here.

Here's my Gazaur Mars and I in front of another unique location. This is Cowboys Stadium, home of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys. It is the largest domed stadium in the world and location of Super Bowl XLV. The total cost to build the stadium was $1.15 billion. More interesting facts are here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cowboys_Stadium).

It is home to the 2010 American League Champions, the Texas Rangers and site of games 3, 4, and 5 of the 2010 World Series. You can see the World Series banner still hanging on the stadium in the background and I'm sporting my Rangers championship attire.

Guys, Lemme contribute.

The photographs show two unique locations-
Unique for Heli: "MY BALD HEAD" My friends often comment my head as a 'HELI PAD'
Unique for backdrop: Hill top with city and the beach at background. and its not dangerous or illegal, its a tourist visiting spot called "Kailasa Giri" in our city, in south india, popularly known as VIZAG (actual name is Visakhapatnam).

About Me and Heli: I am an Addict of RC but a little poor to nourish it (thats why the prize is mouth leaking ;-). Some donations of used stuff from friends got me this heli. Unfortunately the tail rotor and canopy were broken in a crash few days before when I came to know about this contest. As I dont have another one, this is only the thing possible.

I think I can take a better picture with good background and good morning light, but donno if I can do before the contest closes.

but eagerly waiting to see the results ('coz this is 'Luck Independent') :-)

Here are my submissions. I don't know how many will be counted but I figured it would be better to put it in just in case they do qualify. I don't expect to win but who knows, maybe it's unique enough???
The first shot is me and the CX3 at Minute Man National Historical Park in Concord, MA. Within that area is the Old North Bridge where the first battle of the Revolutionary War occurred.
The second shot is at the said Old North Bridge but I also have a picture of a tricopter in there as well for good measure. I didn't think it would be safe to try to fly something there. There were some nice ladies there who took the picture for me though and were intrigued by the contraptions.
The next few shots probably don't qualify but I thought I would have some fun and submit them anyway. It's just inside our apartment with the AR Parrot quadrotor. I took a screen shot on my iPhone of what the quadrotor saw and also had my wife take a picture of me doing it at the same time. I did a couple of takes and wasn't perfect on the screen shot and when my wife took a shot but it's flying and has the pdf file so I figured it was worth submitting for everyone to enjoy if for nothing else. If it's considered, great! Sorry for forgetting to smile in that last shot. Had to make sure it didn't hit anything, even if it was hovering on it's own.
Anyway, I hope everyone enjoys and good luck to all who submitted! It's great to see something other than an "I'm in" contest as it makes people think and do something. I always appreciate fun contests that require creativity.

yea i was going to get one hovering above the fountain at the court house but as i was setting up the court officer said no can do , that the heli would make to much noise , and the people in side would be distracted by it . at flying at the egg farm was a no go too , they were worried that the exhaust from the heli would hurt the chics just hatching ... so i had ideas just didnt pan out . its all good

In that case, maybe the dude getting the tat should win the prize :D :D Personally, I think a loose interpretation of the rules are perfectly valid - he has all the major elements, a heli, the print out, and a unique location. Congrats again dude!

Im sorry you feel that way, but I can assure you the contest wasn't rigged. We also feel that the entrant met the requirements set forth, and the location was unique and creative.

thank you all for the support! and yes i read the rules, as i am not american could had some misunderstanding of my part but, the heli was there, the printed logo wasn't on me but on the other hand it was very visible on my client bud! lol, and if i hold the logo it would be just one more room! cause i would be unnable to tattoo right? i think me tattooing there was what make it unique, don't you guys think? and you didn't need to be flying right?! mu client that doesn't fly helicopters, without any knowledge of what kind of damage a 50 size heli can cause, asked me if i was able to hover over him lol! just showed to him some web videos af rc helis accidents and he changed his mind lol! very funny and good friend!
again thank you very much for this chance and for the support!
still can't believe that i won!!!!!!'n

maybe if you were tatting Kat Von D or Corey Miller it would be more impressive , but when theres a tattoo shop on just about every corner any more its not , sorry i still dont think it should have been you ... and i had the intentions of giveing it to a kid that needed it that was just starting out in the hobby ,

so, you are just starting? cause you posted photos right?i didn't trying to make any impressions on tattoo and just taking it on a unique place, it doesn't matter who is getting what, it doesn't matter if tattoo shops are a normal place, the fact of taking a heli to a tattoo shop was unique in my mind!just happy that i won!

You lost, get over it. I can't believe you are gonna throw a hissy fit over it.

CONGRATS to agm f. cruz! Take a picture of you, the radio, and some random beautiful women you are tattooing.....That would more than make up for the fact you weren't holding the heli in your pic.

If they're too afraid to voice their opinions...then their opinions don't matter.

I think the winning photo is a good one.
Ponder this.......The guy getting the tattoo most likely didn't know much about RC helis. Well, here comes a Crackroll member wanting to take a picture of his heli and a little flyer with the name of a website on it. Can you think of a more captive audience than someone getting a tattoo? Seems like a good opportunity to share the hobby and Crackroll, which is probably what the whole point of these contests is all about. You did see the title of the contest? "Show your Crackroll pride....."

I say again....congratulations to the winner! You're lucky I didn't come in swingin hard with a low down inverted flying pic! :p

I hope Crackroll does another contest like this. I"m pretty dissapointed in myself for not getting my entry in. But this contest, IMO, was WAY better than all of the "I'm in" contests.

How about offering a secondary prize for a cool December/Christmas heli picture? Give D4G another chance.... :)

I agree :)
Also I would like to see a contest for members with 10-15+ posts. Not someone with a single post just to enter then never to hear from them again.

and we have a winner thats what this contest was supposed to be about !

Finalizing things now.
New contest will be up shortly. And it will take some effort on your guys part, too much effort for a NON-participating member to do.
All the "I'm in" and disappear guys will have no chance.

SO.. all you Crackroll.com loyal members, this is YOUR contest!

this was to be for the members that were here and not people that just sign up for the contests , the 1st post winners were to be eliminated and the im in crap was to stop , it was a good change but it got reverted back to old ways , someone joined posted once and won ! so it said nothing for the member that have been here .....

this is what tilcked me off ! that the rules were not followed and got bent to suit someone ! and im guessing frist time poster are loyal members ? i dont know how that worked but now y'all see what ticked me off ...

Again, I want to thank everyone that entered and for all the great locations. Sometimes choosing a winner isn't as easy as making sure the criteria is met...there's a lot of factors involved, and in this case the main factor was showing the most unique location. While there were many great spots, we felt the winner's location was very unique, and warranted a win. While he may not have had the banner "on his person", it was in the picture along with the helicopter and the entrant himself.

There was no conspiracy, no contest rigging, and we are definitely not in the business of discriminating against any member based on post count or joining date. Everyone member is welcome to participate in contests. We have another contest coming very soon, hopefully with multiple prizes being awarded so stay tuned for more info. Im closing this thread as the issue is behind us, lets all move forward.

Regards,

Matt
