Ok guys I have a couple helo's and not one of them have a Govenor installed. I have not felt like I need them and truly have spent the money on MORE FUEL. As of late I have been clicking into idle up more and more often and I seem to have an ever increasing head speed. #1 it scares the hell out of me. #2 I'm worried about hurting something. Should I just bite the bullet and install a Gov or can I effectivly hold a constant head speed without the use of a Gov?
Thanks

Even with a governor you should still set your headspeed with the throttle curve in case the governor fails. So in answer to your question, you can dial in your throttle curve to keep a constant (-ish) head speed, but a governor handles it more precisely :)
G, I found a Governor to be the ultimate ease in setting up curves. I get my curves close so I dont way overspeed if the gov fails. I dont worry to much about getting it dead nuts though. I prefer multigov, but there are tons out there. Multi-gov gives you the simplicity of programing a ratio, and than putting in a head speed. Pretty easy.

Thanks guys. I have this GV-1 and you need a freaking degree to figure it out.. Toro I will pick up either the mulit-gov or the Align gov. I have got to get the motor from hunting like it does.

The GV-1 is one of the easiest to set up and it works ok too.
I still am using the GV-1 in a couple of helies.
No it is not as precise as some of the newer ones but is still pretty good.
You just put it in, set the gear ratio, tell it where you have your throttle limits set, and punch in your desired head speed.
I have tried a Multi gov and did not like it. to get it to be accurate you spend many many flights fine tuning its parameters.
My preference is the Throttle Jockey pro. There are no settings to worry about and it is accurate.
