I saw that there are no threads in this forum yet, so I decided to be the first to start one. :)

So here's a simple question:

Does anybody have a turbine heli? If so, pics of it would be cool.

I have a heli capable of taking a turbine but can't afford a turbine yet.
I want a turbine real bad.
Does that count?

That sorta counts... but not all the way until you get the money for a turbine. ;)

I want one too, even though I don't even own a heli. But once again... life gets in the way.

Ok, so far we've established who wants one - but who actually has one? :D

I forgot to mention this....

A guy in my club up in PA has a turbine powered Lama. I saw it start up last year and hover a little. The thing is awesome.

Here's some pics of it: http://www.vfss.org/index.php?option=com_zoom&Itemid=38&catid=15

Well unless I hit the lottery, or get a really good job when i'm older, I don't think i'll ever own a turbine heli. Or turbine anything. :(

I have one and another on order but they are for an aerial photog buisness. I haven't uploaded any pics yet but I will. I have a new compy that I'm still setting up and I haven't transfered the pics yet. I'm in Iraq so the helis are in storage right now. The current one is a Vario XLV modded with the Hobby Parts JetCat conversion for the SPH-T two stage turb. The second on order is another Vario but the XLC that is the factory version of the HP conversion but with a few more upgrades for heavy lifting. Yes, they are very pricy and fact is without the buisness, I could never justify owning the machines. They are not aerobatic as the XLV is way too big at 2.5 meter rotor span for that. But, there are ones that are capable of 3D.

Mate has a jet,has brought out to field to spool up and test ,but field isnt big or good enough to take off with it,they are a very expensive hobby and anything you do what has to have a fire extingusher handy has to be a good spectator sport, have ya seen youtube vidoes of them crashing and then exploding in to flames....(gota love that)....

I am currently building an "OF" CH-53A Turbine using the Jakadofsky Turbine..BTW that is a mini titan on the tail.....this lil' beauty swings (6) 875mm blades.
I have a build thread started on RR under my same name (coptercptn) as well as a few of my other scale projects...

It's a beauty all right!

The 53 looks crazy!!! its beautiful:) bet you are happy with it.

What sort of cost is involved with such a project?

I currently own and fly a Predator gasser, but would love to get a scale machine. On the verge of getting a turbine, a Wren MW54.

I say on the verge, what I spend on that could easily get me another gasser.

If you can, to the aspiring turbine flyers, try getting into the gasser side of things...they will blow your socks off, they might not be the most 3D able helis but they can shift pretty quick...and demand your attention.

The cost will turn most away..but that is because of the size and all the scale stuff...6 blade head, 4blade tail, retracts, big fuse etc...you can get into a pod and boomer "relatively" cheap.
I figure my all up build price to be in the neighborhood of 14g....Yes it's a pricey neighborhood..but "Boys and Toys"? and Ya can't take it wit ya!!!

oh, and my real driving passion for this thing is the fact I flew the real ones!! (that's me in the cockpit on my avatar! circa 1968 DaNang...)

The only turbine I have is a Turbo prop wren 44 on a Laser 200 I just finished building, and now designing another airplane for this turbine,

You might like to know I have developped a spark ignition system for any propane start turbines. which is more reliable, and no more blown glow plug...

1 member at our club has one, he flew it twice. He is afraid of crashing, so now he brings it for us to look at but does not fly it anymore.

Yep, I have had my Jetcopter since 2003. It is definitely not a 3-D bird, but everybody stops & watches when it fires up.

I had a jetcopter that I bought from a local club member that was involved in a crash and fire. I built it back up to a practically new heli then sold it a few months later.

I now have and am tweaking/testing a Bergen 44 Magnum

OK I'll jump in here I have a Len Mount Odessy with the Jaka" Got it at IRCHA along with the waiver...
Good flyer Cspaced took a few shots of it at Fly for Tots this past weekend... Also test hovered my XLV...
Theres a good shot of it sitting with a regular Vario Benzin'

The turbine is a real rush to fly...I was checking my log and almost have an hr flight time...

It was great to meet you Bill! Here's the shot of Bill standing next to his XLV - this thing was a monster!! Even when he was test hovering and I was stuck on the other side of the runway - it still looked huge!
