Well I might as well be the first thread in the scale section.
2 years ago I decided to jump into a scale project. I had a 30 size shuttle and wanted to convert it to fit into a funkey 50 size bell 222 fuse. The reason I wanted to go with the 50 size fuse instead of just dopping my mechanics into the 30 size one is that the 50 size has a lot more details molded in. For example, the panel lines, zues fasteners, door handles and fuel caps.
One problem I found withe the fuse is that the tail rotor will be on the wrong side as compared to the full scale 222. So I cut off the cone, flipped it over, and fiber glassed it back on the correct way.

Nice work. What do you think about having enough power to get her up and around.. A thirty going to do the trick?

Well actually its been done now for almost two years and its still flying. The OS 37 I have in it is a beast. Im trying to figure out why i cant post any more pics so I can put up the rest of them.

hmmm, seems as though the attachment limit is only 200k and i guess i used that on my last post. I'll get more pics up once this gets fixed
I'm trying to figure out why this is happening.
We have it set to NO limit.. so this is bizzar. Its happening to Toro as well, but not to me.
hmmmm
I`m a total sucker for scale helicopters and will have an MD500 on the board in the coming months. I`m stuck between a rock and a hard spot whether to go electric or use my slightly damaged 50 mechanics.
I like the 50 stuff because I have it but the electrics in a scale 500 almost give it that perfect turbine whistle wihout chunking out 1000`s for a real gas turbine.
I like the century 5 blade hub and I see a few good alternatives for the blade phasing etc with some new electronics. The VBAR system in particular looks pretty cool as you do not need to go and buy a bunch of gyros. Still the jury is out on that until I get the basics.
FUNKEY fuse is pretty much a no brainer but the glow vs electric is the hard decision to make.
I hate decisions right!!!

Yeah, the electrics definatly have some advantages. The sound, like you said is a lot more scale than the whine of a nitro. You also dont have that blue smoke trail or all that nasty oil everywhere on the fuse. BUT, you just have to love being able to gas up and go. Charging batteries is something I have never enjoyed doing and having to wait an hour just to fly again would kill me. Also, those lipos are expensive and pretty volatile and I really would hate to see my heli go up in flames.

Alright here we go.
I was able to cut off the radio tray from he front of the mechanics and move the receiver and battery back to make room for a full cockpit. Then I maidened the fuse while it was still in primer...*just in case* ;)

Next up was the paint. I used a rattle can metallic green that I found at autozone. I got super lucky with the color match to the real thing. The green was not totally opaque so I base coated with black first then the green on top. I then used gold vinyl striping tape for the stripes, painted all the little details and cleared it with an epoxy clear coat.
For lights I used a set of RAM red/green/white nav lights, 2 RAM strobes, and a pair of high intensity LED landing lights that I made up myself. The fuse had no provisions for the red/green nav lights on the landing gear pods so i drilled a hole for the led, and molded a tear drop shaped mount for it out of eppoxy and micro ballons (you can see it in the second pic.). For the landing lights, I siliconed the leds into the reflective cone lenses from a couple of flashlights.
The last pic is a scale landing gear strut that I have been working on. Its made of brass strip and hallow brass rods.

Nice work. The scale birds are really amazing.
You guys put so much work into them.

Very impressive, I like the work on this a lot - it makes all the difference on the finished model.

I love the F1 paint job Adarsh. Are your logos vinyl?

Thanks CSpaced. The strut was originally going to be rigid just for the simple fact that its alot easier to build that way, but with the strut in the compressed position half of the wheel sticks out of the bottom of the fuse. So now I have to build them with a spring inside so that the strut can actually compress when its on the ground and straighten out when its in the air so that the wheel doesn't hang out.

Hi all, I'm not as talented as most so I went with the hirobo evo50 mech. and put it in the
prefinished hirobo bell 222 fuselage. ;). It sure is fast & smooth in the air.

looks awesome. I almost went with that exact pre-painted fuse, but I really fell in love with the scheme I ended up doing.

Yea, I would love a Bell 222 or Jet Ranger fuse for my HBK2, but I can't seem to stop crashing it yet... :)

Thanks. Its reletively easy to do if you go with a prepainted fuse. from funkey (Century). Their fuselages are made so you can basically drop your mechanics in and go fly.
