while building my 700 I have noticed several oddities in the book that will need correcting. They deal with the length of the rods, connecting the swash to the mixer arms. Page 8 contends that the linkage rod (C) be 77mm overall however the picture of the rod they include for comparision is only 72mm when you measure it. I noticed that my brothers kit came with longer rods for C, which were impossible to make 77mm, his ended up longer while mine were set at the books illustration of 72mm. There is no way either of us confused the rods as they dont fit anywhere else on the model. his book is revision june while mine is July.
The actual rod is 50mm in length however when you screw the ball links onto the rod with enough depth to keep the ball link on the rod it comes to the 72mm, not 77mm. HN7063 the align replacement rod kit also comes with the shorter rods.
Another 700 owner pointed out that the illustration of the elevator ball link on page 16 is much smaller than the actual ball link. this extra length will result in the swash being tilted to the rear if you use the 72mm length of link rod C. The elevator ball link can be cut down to the illustrated length and use the stock 72mm length of rod C. We have built three kits and they all seem to have different rod lengths for the head.
I ended up shaving the elevator ball link 3mm and re-forming the base of that link, and using the illustrated 72mm length of rod C which leveled the swash. again, the stated recommended length of 77mm was impossible to achieve with the rods inlcuded in the kit. the rod itself needs to be atleast 55mm not 50 to achieve the 77mm
long story short, if you use the stock elevator ball link the link rod C is 5mm too short. IMHO align needs to fix either one to make the kit easier to trim. the replacement kits are not addressing this probem as the elevator ball link is the stock size and the rod kit comes with 50mm rods.
