OK, was i crazy, i am pretty good at the CX 2 coaxial thing, so a guy said he would sell me his CP pro for cheap. this thing is really hard to fly. i'm almost able to hover it for about 5 seconds before losing it. is it all set-up, or am i just in for alot of crashes till i get it?

small steps man. get used to getting it light on its skids and getting a feel for the controls. You got going on a CX so thats a great start. Keep in mind the CP is like any other non coax heli. When it gets moving in one direction it doesnt stop until you make it. The cx you let go of the sticks and it settles into a hover for the most part. The CP wont. Sim time is a big plus too.

thanks jamesV
i'm working on set-up and trying to learn as much as possible. my rotor head was too tight at first, then i switched x-tals so i could use my programable FUTABA radio and get all the benefits of expo and dual rates, that is helping. i switched to flat bottom blades and set the pitch so it would not go negative and give me more throttle/pitch control to learn hovering, lets face it, i'm a long way from inverted.
a bit at a time....

Check out "Radd's school of rotary flight" it will help you out alot but you must follow it word for word or your just cheating yourself.

Good setup is paramount to learning. CX experience rarely accounts for anything when moving on to single rotor helis. Read up on proper Blade CP Pro setup and get a good heli simulator. From then on, it's all about stick time.

"Radd's" is absolutely de rigueur while learning per Trex Pilot. So is a good sim as Skidsup suggests. Although Radd's applies to larger helis, it is a tremendous help in learning to fly a CCPM micro heli. Follow the instructions to the letter; don't cheat since you'll only cheat yourself.

Believe me when I tell you that I'd still be crashing my CP if not for Radd's and RealFlight.

The Heli-Max Axe CP, CPV and CPv3 come with a training DVD which outlines steps a beginner must take in order to successfully learn. Here's the original Axe CP training video in two parts on YouTube:

Set-up is VERY important...getting the mechanics right will help tremendously with control. You may want to remove the bell-hiller mixing and replace it with the regular CP mixing set-up - it'll make the heli alot less twitchy while you are learning to hover. And don't waste your money on upgrades yet, you'll just kick yourself in the a$$ for it later. Spend your loot on gears, blades and other head parts - your gonna need 'em :) Oh yeah, 2 words: training gear.

Durn tootin'. Just about the time I think I've got this helicopter thing down pat, something winds up happening between gravity and I.

Gravity always wins.

Small steps are really necessary. I remember the first time I tried to get my CP in the air.

I didn't stay there for long. :)

T-rex 450's are MUCH easier to hover (and fly) than a BCP, imo.
