Why does everybody get so excited about the IRCHA Jamboree? Why would anybody go to the mid-west during the sticky, humid summer for a model helicopter event more than an hours drive from the closest city? For starters, you have to be an RC heli fiend to understand. If you aren't super-into-it on some level like most of the people I know in the hobby, you probably won't appreciate it. If you are into RC helicopters in a big way, the IRCHA Jamboree is like Woodstock and the World Fair all rolled into one giant event, except the focus is all on RC helicopters! Helicopters from big to small, from electric to nitro to gasoline to turbine, from the most detailed scale machine to the most aggressive 3D beast are all represented. You get to see most of the well known pilots from all over the world, plus talented lesser-known flyers who come out of the woodworks to prove their stuff in front everyone. The noontime demos often bring out the best in flyers as the atmosphere is much more jovial than a contest. Night flying has also become one of the aspect of IRCHA that just should not be missed! There is a night flying contest with $1000 in prize money on saturday night! Entrants must register at the event, and only 10 pilots will be accepted. click here for more info (http://www.ircha.org/index.php?pr=Night_Fly) I don't know about you, but if I can get all of my ducks in a row I am going to try for it myself!
There is a lot going on, a lot to see, and a lot to buy if you have the money to burn! Anyone who wants to show off a new heli will do it at IRCHA. Any new technology is bound to be shown off at the Jamboree. Anyone who has business in the world of RC helicopters knows the value of being at IRCHA, and because of this the IRCHA Jamboree has become THE PREMIER RC HELICOPTER EVENT. Probably the best part, bar none, of an event of this magnitude, is the people who you rarely get to see. The quality of the average pilot has gone though the roof in the last few years, and no-where is it more apparent than at the IRCHA Jamboree. With the AMA headquarters hosting the event, combined with the simplicity of 2.4 gHz frequency control, there is room for everyone to spread out and have a great time.
