I cannot for the life of me keep these in 1 piece of the sky. Seems it always wants to descend and/or turn. I'm trying to learn tail down front to back. I want to keep them tight and in one place (LOL right in front of me). Any hints?

I hate to say it but just keep practicing. Its all timing and the only way to really figure it out is to keep burning gas. If its wandering across the sky you may need to give it aileron inputs to keep it in front of you. As for it descending, as its leaning back (or forward) into the tic (or toc :) ) try to smoothly give it collective at the same time until you switch directions. You can also try doing them slowly, this will show you what you need to correct better and once you get the timing down you can start speeding them up.

I forgot to add that you need to keep on the rudder too in order to stop the heli moving across the sky, if the tail starts to rotate a little your tic toc will start rotating with it. Its a lot to think about but it can be done with practice!

First of all I would suggest that you learn upright flying and nose in, get confident doing all that first.
I would also suggest learning rolls and flips before trying a tic toc, but you don't need too.
To do a tic toc just start in a hover (highish for first one, make sure you can see it easy though) and then with the tail pointing towards you pull back on cyclic and increase pitch. Once it just gets past vertical bring it back down with forward cyclic and adjust the pitch accordingly. Only do the one for now, until you get confident.
It just comes with practice really.
Once you start getting better with them the trick is to use the tail to steer left and right.
You can then start working on side ones and using the tail in them, then finally nose down ones.
Forgot to add, you need to make sure you have a good tail setup, decent power heli and in idle up mode.

I can loop and roll and nose in and even fly inverted its just those really funky triks i am not sure how to get started.

Yep, you're ready by the sounds of it. Good luck and have fun when you do try it!

i have just started practicing tic tocs for me im haveing trouble keeping my head speed up. im just all over the collective. having a hard time trusting the pop of my collective. need a sim i guess.but till then any ideas for good collective managment skills??

Less is more Flyordie. If you time them correctly and dont slam the collective it wont bog as bad. The stock trex motor especially the 430L Is not really up to the task of consecutive tic tocs. It will do 4 or 5 but i havent been able to get much past that as the motor bogs and i lose alt. really quick.

Practice rainbows start with longs ones then start making them shorter till you have the timming down and soon you will have a tic toc

Sounds like sound advice to me!

this would probably be the better deal it would help me be smoother on the collective.i need to get a sim!

Yea that is were i can do the roll's and inverted is on the sim :) i have not tryed it in real life yet.

I can do a bunch of tricks in the sim (clearview), but I cannot seem to translate them into real life. I think it is because I am nervous to crash the real thing, so my brain starts to turn to mush.

not only that Imo,
In the sim you always have a perfect setup and the wind effects are never realistic .
In real life you have to deal with many advanced parameters which todays PC's and simulators can't reproduce/simulate properly.
A sim is good for orientation and programming stick moves in your brain.
The rest has to be learned/trained in real-life I'm afraid :)
I also master much more in a Sim, but I very much prefer the thrill of real life flying....
When I'm flying I'm always trying to empty my head (like the sim), to much thinking most of time means trouble.
The rainbow is the best way to learn tictoc's for me.
You learn to correct roll in forward and backward movement and have more time to correct the tail if needed.
just make them smaller and faster, step by step.

I'm exactly at that point. Ive been practicing tick tocks / rainbows too, roughly two hours straight now. At first I was all over the place, now I'm a little better, but not much.
What I realised is that I have to move the cyclic stick for pitch not straight up down with no roll but need to add a bit of right roll at down pith (when the stick is up) and left roll at full up pitch. (hope this makes sense).
Could this be due to CCPM interaction? I also have quite a bit of slop on the swash as can be seen in this short video.

Or is this type of stick input normal? Flying a Trex 450.
I've also practiced a lot on Phoenix simulator, and it helps some, but when I fly for real it always takes me a pack or two, to get used to the real thing again.

On tick tocks shouldn't the pitch be set on max ?
Curious, steve

Can only be done properly in idle-up mode AFAIK.
linear pitchcurve, + and - the same pitch range is advisable, fast and steady headspeed.
How much pitch degrees you have in + and - depends on the rotorhead.
Normal would be +- 10º on some heads up to +- 15º.
I was told...when you do them really well you don't need that much bladepitch at all.
The less input you need to make them, the better the Tictoc.

I have spent alot of time on Real Flight, moving my way up thru the heli's. Been on the flybarless ones for awhile now and they seems as slow as the heli's I started out with, but I can throw down like a pro on the sim. Just haven't worked up enough nerve yet to try all that in real life, besides flips and hovering inverted nose in.
I just realized this tread is older than dirt....lol

I think the best way to learn is to start slow tail down rotor disk toward you just start doing them real long at first almost like a rainbow then all you got to do is speed it up and bam! you got an elevator tic tock
