HDX 500 Thread

How many of you guys are still flying this bird?
What setups etc?
I run a 3026-1400 on a 14t and a 130 MG with 85mgs, 401/9650. Trex 500 flybar and paddles.

Working on converting mine to a V2 HDX SE.

V2 head parts, TRex 500 flybar, V2 frames, uH 140 spur, Scorpion HK3026-1600, 18T pinion, PHX. 80, FP 4S 3700.

Are you going to run the smaller Main with the 1600?
Im in need of a set of metal blade grips, seems the plastic ones flex quite a bit with a higher HS

Did not plan too, going to set up the high gov. mode on the CC esc to 80% and see how things go.

I do have a 1400 kV, I can use if things don't work the way they should.

Tomorrow afternoon, I'll have the final bits to finish the project, battery tray and the antirotation tower.

We have 4 in our group in Cape Town , all V1's converted to V2 , Scorpion 1210 on 140 main gear , some on 4s some on 6s

Fly a RCP 1000 kv mtr(INSANE 2HP) 4s 4000mah, 401/ 9650, 81mg, Mah 425 + 90mm carbons on the tail all on 6v for serious heart POUNDING fun. T rex flybar and paddles too.

I bumpped up the tail fin to a 30 size and it works so much better. No grass wiping on the tail blades. now if i can gust get it to bounce off the ground and not be hurt I will be in great shape.

I just found out I have one of these coming to me as a xmas gift. The SAH version. I have the servos, motor and esc already. Just need to pick up a gyro, battery and spare parts.

What stuff other than hdx and lepton is compatible with this bird?

Trex 500 flybar and paddles is a good upgrade. So is the Scorpion 3026-1400 and the 130 main gear.

Thanks for the info.

I had already ordered the '3D' upgrade which is metal center hub, seesaw, mixing arms and a 13t tail pinion. As well as the 140 main gear and 12t pinion gear.

Ok, I just learned that as the heli's get bigger, head speed comes down. Yeah, a newbie at this. So what sort of head speed do you run on a 500 sized heli? I'm hearing 2400-2500 as I search around. Is that what I should shoot for with the HDX?

Yeah that is about right. If you have the cnc head and a good setup it is ok to run 2800 (what I used to run) but that is on the high side and should only be needed for 3d.

Well, I started putting this one together, as the scorpion motor showed up today. Started with cutting away bits of the frame to get the 140t gear in. and allow the battery tray to move back.

Well, I have mine together, and have had about 4 battery length hovers while adjusting it.

I hovered out a pack until you could hear the head speed decreasing. Battery was at 19.8v, and I put 2212 back into it.

Where did you guys get your pinion gears at...are you useing the 24 tooth with 4 cell.....

I am using pinions from HeliDirect. But a 14t with the 140 main gear and 6s.

hi there,
i was checkin the hdx500 out on hd's site today. looks nice and affordable. anybody by chance have both the hdx and/or the trex500 or protos that can make a comparison? i'm curious cuz the hdx500 has been around a lot longer than these other birds so wondering if it still needs a lot in the way of upgrades, or does it come ready to 'rock' :D.
