Hey Guys

I bought this kit back at the beginning of summer. It's sat on a shelf as I collected everything I needed
to complete the kit. I now have everything and I'm about ready to start. The bench needs a little clean-up
before I jump in..

Awesome man, this is the very same kit I have to put into my Cobra. What are you using to power it? Details details! So far all I have is the kit itself.

Guys this build will be delayed because of Tropical Storm Fay. I have to attend to water
intrusion in my home office and my workbench just got covered in office stuff. This is going to take
a while to sort out. Bear with me.

I'll let you know what I have on hand for the build.

Motor: Century 600A+
ESC: Castle Creations 60 amp ESC
BEC: Castle Creations BEC
Batteries for now are: TrueRC 6S.
Charger: Kong Power 6s Charger KP-100W6
Servos for swash: Hitech 6965
Gyro: JR G770 3D
Tail servo: JR DS890G
Cali Graphics graphics for canopy.
Bling:
Century triple bearing upgrade.
Century CNC tail case
Century CNC Motor Mount.
Century CNC Horz fin mount clamp.
Century CNC Main Rotor Hub

Still on the fence about running separate receiver battery. Some people use one to get the heli to balance.
If so I have 2S lion with the CC BEC.

Great performer you wont be disappointed. Parts are inexpensive as well.

Here is a great link for more tips.

what configuration you're going with?

Cloud Cruiser

I'm mounting the electronics tray vertical, and I'm trimming it off so its not to tall. Then I'll mount 10 cells to the front of that with a small bracket and velcro straps. Then I'll mount 2,3, or 4 cells on the bottom battery tray. I'll post some pictures soon.

Do you have any knowledge on a 82 A123 setup on the Century 600+ motor. I'm thinking this
would be a alternative to running 6S lipo. I don't know if the 600+ will handle 10S A123.

I have read that some guys use 7s a123's with the 600+, but I don't think the 8s would be safe. It definately would not handle a 10s pack. I'm going to use a Scorpion 4025 motor and a castle hv-85 esc, so I'm covered. I've not worked on it much in 2 weeks. I plan to work more on it this week. I think I may be modding to many things on this one. I'm having to think too much! "LOL"

Did you use a little shoe goo on the outside of the bearings to keep them from slipping. Just wondering
how many folks do this.

Carlos, I did it on my Swift build. She's been in the air for just over a year, and still runs great.

Hi Carlos, Yes I used it on my bearings as well. I had a couple of bearings on this new build that absolutely would not stay in unless I did use it. It's a little messy, but take your time and the results are well worth the effort.

Finish, One test hover hop.. Had one of my M3x12 screw heads pop on the tail transmission case
for some reason. I think I cranked on it a bit much. Anyway, I could not get the rest of the screw
out of the transmission case and had to order another transmission case.

Next flights are to capture some Elogger data..

I've been at a stand still on mine. I hope to have it going soon. The transmission case screws are junk. Your new one will probably have socket head screws in it.

You know, I thought the socket head screws were a mistake... I wonder if I can swap them
after using the self tapping screws.

Hey Guys

The DX7 has expo on throttle and pitch curves. Do you guy's use it?

JustPlaneChris
10-20-2008, 07:46 AM
I use EXP on the pitch curves in my X9303. Seems to smooth out the response just a bit.

lowkey3d
10-20-2008, 11:28 AM
Chris,

I'll play with expo and see if I like it.

BTY, I enjoy the Podcasts. Keep'em come in..:D

Spidious

Try 30% expo and it won't be so twitchy trying to hover it...

lowkey3d
11-08-2008, 01:21 PM
Some more hovering today. On my last attempt one of my flybar paddles departed the flybar. Lucky
I was able to set down before things got ugly. Boy did she dance like a chicken. I really never liked
the stock paddles. Is everybody else still running stock paddles or have you gone to the upgraded versions.

Was thinking to go to the 4mm flybar and 620Se paddles.

Yikes, that's scary! I've never had that happen (or heard of it happening) with the stock paddles. You can also use the Thunder Tiger "Greenie" paddles on the Swift. They make the cyclic a bit softer, plus they have setscrews to retain them.

I installed and removed the paddles several times during the build. The only thing that I can think of
is that I may have cross threaded the paddle and the CA was not enough to hold. :headinthewall:
All the threads are gone inside the paddle. lucky I had just spooled up and was only a few inches of
the ground. Saw something spit and slammed her down.

I just ordered some greenie's.. :D

lowkey3d
11-23-2008, 03:13 PM
I tried the Green Thunder Tiger paddles and they caused a slight vibration in a hover. Checked
the weight of the paddles on a gram scale and they were exact. I swapped to original swift 16
paddles and the vibration seems to be gone. I didn't like the feel of the greenies either. They
felt a little less responsive v.s. using the stock and I felt like I was over correcting most of the time.

JustPlaneChris
11-24-2008, 10:30 PM
Yep, the greenies are definitely less responsive. If you had any expo programmed in, you do not need it with the greenies! Interesting you mention the vibration, I've noticed a slight vibration with mine too. As you say, they balanced perfectly too. It was very noticeable when I did my first AV attempt with the Swift, and I switched back to the stock paddles to eliminate it. Here are the vids:

Chris

Very cool video.. I noticed your heli is much more tame when those blades spin down.. My Swift jumps
around like a chicken with hot feet... What blades and head speed were you running?

JustPlaneChris
11-25-2008, 10:19 PM
That was some cheap Helidirect woodies ($19). Head speed was about 1800. The real secret to the lack of the wet dog shake is that I'm not using stock landing gear! I have Hirobo Sceadu struts and skids on mine, which are much lower and stiffer.

lowkey3d
11-30-2008, 04:14 PM
I found away around the chicken dance.

In normal mode I have 3 degrees or so of negative pitch at low stick. If I spin down in normal mode
the heli does the chicken dance vibration. Because it takes so long for the blades to spin down.

But, If I land the heli and leave the thottle just below mid stick I can hit thottle hold then pull the throttle down and use the -10 degrees of pitch to slow the blades with no vibration.:p

lowkey3d
01-10-2009, 05:33 PM
UGG... Last two outings with the Swift and two crashes. Both out of my stupidity.

The first, I failed to give full negative pitch after landing and I looked down at my radio
and must have pushed let aileron and she rolled over. Main gear munched and trashed blades
and one blade holder

The Second, I forgot to tighten up some side pay in the flybar after the last repair. Spun her
up and was startled by a bad vibration near mid stick. Hit thottle cut and the bird popped 8 feet
into the air scaring the hell out of me. Needless to say this was my first failed auto.. trashed
a blade and and the landing gear. Was really lucky with this one could have been worse..:blockhead:

Anyway I was ordering part and found there is a new landing gear out for the Swift.
