After a fairly uneventful trip through the night, and a quick stop at the Indy Airport, Toro and I arrived at the 2008 IRCHA Jamboree. Even at at 10:30 am on THURSDAY the event was already in full swing. Everywhere you looked you saw helicopters. 3D machines, micro electrics as well as very large scale rigs, all forms of model helicopters are represented and represented WELL. I was Pilot #620 and I registered at 10:30am and this is ONLY THURSDAY!
I was told by several IRCHA alumni that by Saturday over 850 registered pilots were expected, making this the largest RC gathering in the WORLD!
I have to admit as a first timer, the event is over whelming. The amount of talent represented is amazing. From 5 year old wonders, to 70 year old scale freaks, everything going on is simply amazing.
Also, seeing friends is what IRCHA is about, and already today, we have seen friends from Team Align, Team Thunder Tiger, Zero G lighting, Team Synergy, Team Gohbee, Team Futaba, Team JR, and many many more!
Toro and I are on a mad dash to upload pictures and get some rest tomorrow is going to be a big day.. many more pictures to take, and tons of video to shoot!

How does the red Flight Care chopper in the first set of pics control the tail?
Its a NOTAR tail system, just like the real ones. It uses air flowing out a duct over the side of the curved fuselage surface to create lift to one side. It controls yaw by enlarging, or shrinking the size of the duct outlet. Pretty cool. Im not sure if this one is turbine, or a gasser. I'll have to go look again.

It looked too small to be a turbine. If it is not a turbine, where is the airflow produced?

It looked too small to be a turbine.
That Heli is HUGE.
I believe it was a turbine.
It is sitting on a 8' x 3.5' table!
:D
The red care flight believe it or not, was a glow bird.... airflow comes from Ducted fan type setup diverting cooling air

Cool. Thanks. That is the one thing about not actually being there, you just don't get the perspective.

You are not that far away, You could make it up for the SWARM fun fly where there are not so many fun police to calm us down.

Right now, I have a TT Raptor 50 Titan.
I want to master this one (or at least be able to fly it well) before jumping to anything else.
I saw many pilots rocking this bird, so I know its fairly capable, and yet its not overly touchy, so I should be good to go. Also, replacement parts are very available, as well as affordable, which I'm sure I will need quite often as I open up my flight envelope. Also, I'll be siming it A LOT on my G3.5 and soon to be G4 sims.
